For a lot of people, period tracking starts with a calendar.
You enter the first day of your period, the app looks at your previous cycles, and it estimates what is likely to happen next. If your cycle is fairly predictable, that can be useful.
But bodies don’t always follow a calendar.
Cycles can be longer or shorter, ovulation can happen earlier or later, and things like PCOS or endometriosis can make patterns much harder to predict. That’s one of the reasons Ultrahuman introduced Cycle & Ovulation Pro for the Ring AIR.
The PowerPlug is designed to look at what’s actually happening in the body rather than relying mainly on an average cycle length.
Moving beyond the 28-day cycle
The idea of a textbook 28-day cycle is convenient, but it doesn’t describe everyone’s experience.
Ultrahuman says Cycle & Ovulation Pro is designed to work with that variability. It uses temperature data collected passively by the Ring AIR to understand individual cycle patterns and confirm ovulation.
That is an important distinction.
Instead of simply saying that ovulation is expected around a particular day, the feature focuses on confirming that it happened. Ultrahuman says the system has achieved more than 90% accuracy in ovulation confirmation through testing involving LH and progesterone rises.
For someone whose cycle doesn’t behave predictably from month to month, having that physiological information can be much more useful than another calendar estimate.
The technology comes from years of fertility research
The technology behind the feature isn’t completely new.
Ultrahuman acquired viO HealthTech and adapted technology from its OvuSense fertility monitoring system for use with the Ring AIR. OvuSense has been developed over 15 years, using data from more than 260,000 cycles collected with medical-grade sensors.
The original OvuSense system is a Class II medical device used for temperature-based ovulation tracking. For Cycle & Ovulation Pro, Ultrahuman has adapted the underlying algorithm for non-invasive temperature sensing through the finger.
That distinction is worth keeping in mind. The PowerPlug is intended for wellness and personal cycle awareness, rather than diagnosis, treatment, or contraception.
It can highlight patterns beyond ovulation
Ovulation confirmation is only one part of the feature.
Cycle & Ovulation Pro also includes what Ultrahuman calls Cycle Flags™. These use temperature patterns to highlight changes that may be difficult to notice when looking at individual cycles.
For example, the system can identify patterns around early or late ovulation, shorter luteal phases, or cycles where ovulation may not have occurred.
Some of these patterns may be associated with conditions such as PCOS, although the feature isn’t intended to diagnose those conditions.
The value here is really in seeing your own patterns over time.
You can add the human side too
Not everything that affects a cycle shows up in temperature data.
That’s why the PowerPlug also lets users tag things like mood, symptoms, and lifestyle behaviours alongside their cycle.
Maybe you’re feeling noticeably different during one phase of your cycle. Maybe your sleep, stress levels, or routine changes around a particular point each month. Logging those experiences gives you another way to look back and spot patterns that might otherwise get lost.
It basically turns cycle tracking into something more personal than simply knowing when your next period is expected.
Who is Cycle & Ovulation Pro actually for?
The feature can be useful for anyone who wants a more detailed understanding of their cycle, but it may be particularly relevant for people whose cycles don’t fit the usual template.
That includes women with irregular cycles and those dealing with conditions such as PCOS or endometriosis.
It’s also relevant for people who are actively trying to understand their fertile window. More precise ovulation confirmation can provide useful information when planning around fertility.
At the same time, someone with an extremely regular cycle who only wants a basic period calendar may not need the additional layer of data.
The regular Cycle & Ovulation PowerPlug still exists
There’s also an important difference between the existing free Cycle & Ovulation PowerPlug and the new Pro version.
The original PowerPlug remains free and continues to provide foundational cycle tracking.
Cycle & Ovulation Pro sits on top of that with more advanced ovulation confirmation, physiological pattern recognition, and additional cycle insights.
So users aren’t being forced into a paid plan simply to track their periods. The Pro version is aimed at people who want to go deeper.
Pricing and availability
Cycle & Ovulation Pro is available for Ultrahuman Ring AIR users in the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada.
It costs $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year.
For people who have always found traditional period trackers a little too dependent on averages, the appeal is fairly straightforward. Instead of asking your body to fit the calendar, Ultrahuman is trying to make the calendar fit your body.
